Hurricane Ike - September 13, 2008

Getting ready for the hurricane was a scary, but quiet experience. We did not do much except pick up everything from the yard that we thought might fly.
As the evening sun was setting we got the reddest sun we have seen in a long time. It was a sign that something magical and bigger than anything we've seen was approaching with fury and enormous steps.
At around 3 am the wind was pounding so hard against our bedroom window that I decided to take a mat and put it in the bathroom when Carlos caught me.

This traffic light was down for several days

As we drove around we could see the damage was minimum, just some roofs were leaking and some broken fences were evident.

These are all fallen electric wires as the poles did fell as well.

The best part of the hurricanes is that we got to spend some time with our friends Carolyn and Ben who came over as they had no electiricty and cooked a wonderful chinese meal for us.

Ben is a great cook but I couldn't get all his secrets!
These picutres were taken in The Heights, an older neighborhood in Houston by our friend's Masoud and Alice's neighborhood. As you can see they have a lot more damage in that part and after 9 days, they still have no electiricity.

A branch fell on their car but it seems like the car is ok.
